Continuing our commitment to supporting AI talent in the region, InstaDeep was proud to sponsor and take part at the 6th edition of IndabaX Tunisia 2025, held on May 3-4 at the Higher School of Communication of Tunis (Sup’Com) and organised by the IEEE SupCom Student Branch.

IndabaX Tunisia has established itself as a key annual catalyst for community-driven AI, bringing together students, researchers, and practitioners for two focused days of technical talks, applied workshops, and collaborative challenges. It remains a valuable platform for engaging with emerging talent and supporting the development of a strong, grassroots AI ecosystem in Tunisia.

A Glimpse into the Future of AI in Life Sciences

One of the event highlights was a keynote by Amine Kerkeni, Head of Engineering at InstaDeep. His talk, “From Chips to Pills: How Generative AI Is Re-engineering Life-Sciences R&D” explored how generative AI is revolutionising drug discovery and reshaping the pharmaceutical landscape. Drawing on real-world use cases, the session demonstrated how AI is accelerating timelines, reducing R&D costs, and opening new avenues for innovation in healthcare.

Learning in Action

We also presented  two technical workshops designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

The first, “Refining LLMs Beyond Pretraining: State-of-the-Art Adaptation Techniques”, led by Mohamed Mejri, Jawhar Jabri, and Nizar Ben Hamida, provided a deep dive into advanced fine-tuning methods for large language models. Participants gained insights into how to adapt models for specific, real-world tasks.

The second, “Clearing the Signal: A Deep Dive into Denoising Diffusion Models”, led by Imen Jendoubi, Wiem Khlifi, and Aymen Khouja, explored how diffusion models can be used to generate high-quality synthetic data. The session included practical exercises to help participants build intuition and apply key concepts hands-on.

Beyond IndabaX

We extend our thanks to the IndabaX Tunisia organising team and everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s event – including IEEE Student Branch, Sup’Com, Deep Learning Indaba, GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and Zindi. Events like IndabaX consistently demonstrate the depth of talent across Africa and the importance of creating spaces where that talent can connect, grow, and lead. Supporting similar initiatives through mentorship, technical exchange, and access, is key to building long-term impact.

Looking ahead, the next chapter for the continent’s AI community will take place at Deep Learning Indaba 2025, scheduled for 17- 22 August at the University of Rwanda in Kigali, under the theme “Urunana: Hand in Hand for AI in Africa.” Our team will be there once again, contributing through a range of contributions spanning technical sessions, collaboration, and community engagement.

If you’re looking to get involved in future Indaba events across the continent, we encourage you to explore upcoming editions and learn more at the official Indaba site: https://deeplearningindaba.com/2025/.
