In November, Google’s DevFest came to Lagos, and we were proud to join the event as one of the sponsors. With more than 2000 developers in attendance it was quite the event, here’s what one of our colleagues, AI Engineer Tejumade Afonja, had to say about it;

DevFest is a community-led, developer event hosted by the Google Developer Group (GDG) chapters around the globe, focusing on community building and learning about Google and open technologies. DevFest Lagos was held at the Zone Tech Park in Gbagada on 3rd of November 2018 with over 2000 developers across Nigeria present.  Femi Taiwo, a Google Developer Expert, led the event in cooperation with Aniedi Udo-Obong, Program Manager Developer Ecosystem for Sub-Sahara Africa, Moyin Adeyemi, an Android Developer, Ada Oyom, Developers Relation Manager and many more.

The theme this year was “Digital Wellbeing”, and it featured over 26 different sessions across multiple tracks on Android, Web, Cloud and Machine Learning. At a time when a lot of smartphone users are reportedly addicted to their devices, a discussion around digital wellbeing became pertinent and was well received by the audience.

InstaDeep is proud to support the growth of leading communities like Devfest Lagos, and we were delighted and honoured to be a sponsor at this event. I had the opportunity to interact with the audiences with several discussions around AI and also speak about the internship opportunities we offer at InstaDeep. School of AI and AI Saturdays Lagos, communities I co-run, also held classes alongside the event at the same venue, proudly sponsored by Google Devs. It was such a privilege to be a part of this gathering, and I can’t wait to do it again in the future. One of our students also wrote about his experience at DevFest Lagos, School of AI, and AI Saturdays – read all about it here.
